The beauty of pointe shoes has captured little girls and women’s hearts for as long as they’ve been around. The allure of owning a pair of pointe shoes can be very tempting, however if you are genuinely considering starting pointe there are a few things to consider first.
I recently received a call from ‘Beverly’ who has never done ballet before but really interested in doing pointe work – but only pointe work. Her reasons were because the shoes are so much prettier than the flat ones.
Now it’s my mission in life to make ballet more accessible and less elite. So it really doesn’t bother me to spend twenty minutes on the phone discussing why studying only pointe work would be like me wanting to learn how to make a soufflé before a cookie.
Starting pointe work is an extremely exciting period for any young dancer or adult ballerina. However there are many steps before slipping on that first pair of pointe shoes and I think the following blog posts will be helpful to read before venturing down this path…
