Hello Balanced Ballerinas!
I’m going to get straight into it because I can’t wait to share with you all my conversation with the gorgeous Josephine Lee. As you’ll hear, even though Josephine and I have never met in real life I felt as though I was catching up with an old friend and discovering a new one all at the same time!
Is that even possible? I’m not sure. But you know what I mean! Josephine and I have sent the odd message here and there through social media, but we’d never officially met. So from my apartment here in Australia I spoke to Josephine all the way in California and I can’t wait to hopefully connect in real life.
If you’re listening to this interview possibly years from now it’s important to note that at the time of recording we are living through the worldwide COVID19 pandemic and whilst Josephine and I touch on this and how it’s affected small business, it’s not the sole focus of our episode.
No, Josephine has so much more to offer! She is a business woman, entrepreneur, master pointe shoe fitter, lover of ballet, avid reader, professional public speaker and often referred to by her clients as their fairy godmother.
Josephine is the Director of The Pointe Shop and the leader of a team of professional pointe shoe fitters that work out of her Orange County, San Diego and Oakland locations or they come directly to you. After recognising a need for more accessible and knowledgeable pointe shoe fittings, she started her traveling pointe shoe fitting company in January of 2014.
After our conversation I was desperately trying to figure out how Josephine could travel all the way to Australia to fit my adult and younger dancers! A bit of a pipe dream at the moment considering the world is in lockdown and most of us can’t even leave our state let alone country.
So I guess I’ll just have to continue consuming her content on The Pointe Shop’s YouTube Channel – which is amazing by the way. Go check it out! And whilst you’re searching all things Josephine, I highly recommend following her personal Instagram account @josephineylee
The thing I love most about Josephine is how inspirational yet relatable she is. And she always seems to find the right words to describe a thought I’m having or respond so maturely and gracefully to a difficult situation.
If you’re a lover of ballet, enjoy this fabulous story with talk of pointe shoes woven in and out of the story line and if you’re one of my younger listeners I want this conversation to inspire you to continue your ballet training with the mindset that you never know where it may take you!
Enjoy my conversation with Josephine Lee…
Grit & Grace,
